Montana Online Betting Market Explained

February 21, 2024 William Mcmaster

In recent years, the US has changed its stance towards sports betting as well as other forms of gambling. Since the Supreme Court struck down PASPA in 2018, the floodgates have opened. Many states across the country have started to introduce their own laws and regulations governing gambling and mobile wagering. Montana is one of the many states that has now legalized real money gambling, with in-person, online, and mobile betting all now permitted within the state.

Although Montana has legalized sports wagering, there are still a lot of rules regarding gambling, and residents of the state don’t have access to the same online sportsbooks that have been launched in other states. However, fans of sports won’t mind too much as there are still lots of different events and markets to bet on at licensed locations. Read on to find out the full details on betting in MT state.

Montana Betting Market Explained

Which Forms of Betting Are Allowed in Montana?

The Treasure State joined a slew of other US states in legalizing sports betting in May 2019. Governor Steve Bullock signed the new law into action, and in 2020, the first retail sportsbook locations started taking bets. However, unlike a lot of other states to have legalized sports wagering, the law in the Treasure State is very restrictive towards internet gambling operators. In fact, for the next seven years, at least, no other operator is allowed to hold a betting license other than the Montana state lottery company Intralot.

These rules mean that residents of MT will only be allowed to bet at Sports Bet Montana, and the monopoly means that bonuses and odds won’t be as competitive as those found in other states. Despite the change in law towards betting, the state legislators don’t have any plans towards making online casinos or online poker legal. However, bars and taverns throughout the state are able to apply for a license to offer various games, including slots, keno, live poker, and more.

Betting Restrictions in Montana

Obviously, the most obvious gambling restriction in MT is that players can only sign up to bet at Sports Bet Montana. In addition to this, although mobile betting is allowed, it may only be done at a retail sportsbook location which is a bit of an inconvenience. The licensed site uses geolocation software to confirm your location before you can place a real money wager. All betting, as well as daily fantasy sports, is controlled by the state lottery.

Unlike in some other states, which require you to be 21, the minimum age to bet in Montana is 18. When you sign up to the sportsbook site, you’ll need to verify your age within 30 days by submitting a copy of your ID. Deposits can only be made using a debit card or ACH transfer, and withdrawals must be made using the same method.

The state-owned sportsbook offers a good selection of odds on major sports, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and more. In addition, it’s possible to bet on college sports, including those involving Big Sky Country teams. A wide range of wagering markets are also available, but maximum bets do apply on some options.

Montana Online Gambling FAQ

Are Online Sportsbooks Legal in Montana?

Yes, online sports betting is legal in the state. However, those in the state only have access to one sportsbook and can only bet at a terminal or using the app while inside one of the licensed locations.

Are Online Casinos Legal in Montana?

No, online casinos aren’t legal in the state, and there aren’t currently plans to change that. Tribal casinos are available, however, and many bars also have a license to offer casino games.

Iowa Betting Market Explained

February 21, 2024 William Mcmaster

Over the last few years, the US has overturned several laws that were preventing states from legalizing gambling. Since then, a growing number of state governors have signed new laws that regulate and control the gambling industry, allowing people to finally bet legally across the United States of America. Among those states that have legalized gambling is Iowa, which now offers legal sports betting both online and in-person as well as providing a range of land-based casinos.

Iowa actually has some complicated rules on gambling. Although it forbids placing a bet on a game for anything of value, the state has long offered land-based casinos as well as betting on horse and dog racing. However, betting on sports such as the NFL, NBA and MLB was banned until recently. Luckily, the state now allows anyone above the minimum age to bet on a wide range of sports, although there are still restrictions in place. Take a look at our full guide on Iowa betting below for all the details.

iowa

Which Forms of Betting Are Allowed in Iowa?

Land-based casinos are allowed to operate on tribal land in Iowa and since 2019, sports betting has also been permitted. Sportsbooks quickly emerged not long after the law was changed, and Iowans soon had multiple online and in-person sportsbooks to choose from. This same law also included new regulations on daily fantasy sports, which had previously been banned (Des Moines Register, 2019).

While the laws in Iowa are fairly relaxed towards gambling now, there are still lots of restrictions. These prevent online casinos and poker sites from operating within the state. For now, this doesn’t seem likely to change, but given the success of the online sports betting industry and the fact that the state already has plenty of land-based casinos, it doesn’t seem far-fetched that it could be changed in the future.

Betting Restriction in Iowa

Despite the fact that the state of Iowa has a long history with gambling and the fact that sports betting is now legal, there are rules and regulations that players and operators must follow. To begin with, any online sportsbook accepting bets from people in Iowa must be licensed by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (The Gazette, 2021).

In addition, anyone looking to place a bet on sports or at any of the casinos in the state must be at least 21 years old. If you’re signing up to an online sportsbook, you’ll be expected to upload a copy of your ID in order to register and bet. When online betting first launched in the state, you had to visit one of the land-based casinos to register for an online sportsbook, but it’s now possible to register online.

Mobile betting is permitted in the state, giving you freedom over where you bet, but you’ll still have to be within the state borders, and sites will check your location. You can still sign up to an Iowa online sportsbook if you’re not from the state, but you won’t be able to place any bets unless you’re within the state lines.

Iowa Online Gambling FAQ

Are Online Sportsbooks Legal in Iowa?

Yes, online sports betting is legal both on desktop and on mobile, and there’s a range of legal sportsbooks available. Sites such as BetRivers, DraftKings, and Betfred are all up and running, along with many more.

Are Online Casinos Legal in Iowa?

No, presently online casinos aren’t legal in the state, although there are over 20 land-based casinos that offer a full range of casino games to wager real money on.

Are Online Poker Sites Legal in Iowa?

No, online poker is currently illegal in Iowa.

5 New Slots To Check Out

The developers of the 5 new slots that we strongly recommend that you check out this week are Play’n GO, Microgaming, Quickspin, Relax Gaming, and IGT. These developers are globally recognized as top guns because of the quality of online video slot games that they have in their portfolio. With the new games that they released this week, they live up to this standard yet again in terms of visuals, bonus features, and gameplay.

Coin Bash

Piggy banks with loads of instant money rewards are where all the fun is in the Coin Bash online slot by Snowborn Games. The Stockholm-based developer created the money-themed slot game for Microgaming and it is due for release on 13th July 2021. As is the standard with Microgaming games, Coin Bash offers you the chance to increase your wins massively with such features as wilds, scatters, progressive multipliers, and free spins.

There are 5 reels with 20 paylines in Coin Bash. It has an RTP of 96.12%, medium volatility, and a hit rate of 39.75%.  You can play with a stake as low as 20c, all the way up to $50. To secure a win here, the requirement is that you land three or more matching symbols across a payline, which pays from left to right on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel. The maximum win is 5,000x the worth of your stake and the game’s features, which we’ll soon discuss, can help you get this.

Coin Bash cta

Coin Bash’s bonus features are Lucky Star Bonus, Coin Spin, and Piggy Bank. Lucky Star is activated when three scatter symbols land on reels 2 to 4. A bonus wheel appears and spins to determine how many free spins you’ll get. It also selects a multiplier value between 2x and 5x your bet. Piggy Bank is triggered with three or more Piggy Bank symbols to give you an instant cash prize. 9 symbols will give you the max 5,000x win. Coin Spin adds more Piggy Bank symbols to the reels and that just means more cash wins for you. There are also Wild symbols in Coin Bash that replace other symbols except for the special symbols for the bonus features we mentioned earlier. They pay up to 125x your stake when you hit a 5-symbol streak in one spin.

One look at the Coin Bash reels and the flamingo pink color of its background will instantly remind you of traditional piggy banks. The audio is also well-done and will have you tapping your feet as you play to earn funds.

Like other slot games featuring Cluster Pays, Gemix 2 has a Cascade feature. After a winning cluster is formed and your payout awarded to you, the symbols that make up the cluster will be removed and new gems will continue to drop in their place until no more winning combos are formed. The Crystal Charge feature has four arms to it – Nova Blast, Crystal Warp, Light Beam, and Chain Lightning. 5 New Slots To Check Out

This week, our top five new slots are from accomplished online casino game developers with little or no flops after years of supplying the online casino gaming industry with top-notch slots. They are Red Tiger Gaming, Pragmatic Play, Play ‘n GO, Betsoft, and 1×2 Gaming. Eager to see what these brands have for you? Let’s dive right in.

What the Fox Megaways

Neon lights, flashy cars, wads of cash, and the bling lifestyle of a Las Vegas casino fox make up this all-new slot from Red Tiger Gaming. If you find this theme familiar, it is because it is a form of spin-off of the similarly extravagant Piggy Riches Megaways slot from the same developer. Designed with the hit Megaways mechanism, What the Fox Megaways offers you up to 117,649 ways to win. It is due for release on Thursday, 20th May 2021, in top online casinos around the globe.

What the Fox Megaways was designed with 6 reels, 7 rows, and an RTP of 95.71%. A peak win of 10,474.5x your stake is up for grabs here with payways that range between 64 and 117,649 per spin. Just like other Megaways slots, you need to land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost one to form a winning combo.

What the fox megaways

There are three bonus features in What the Fox Megaways – Cascading Reels, Wily Wilds, and Foxy Spins. The Cascading Reels feature is a staple that you’ll find in all Megaways slots. It is activated every time you land a winning combo. When that happens, the symbols that make up the combo are removed and new ones drop in their stead. If the new symbols form another winning combo, the process repeats itself until there are none.

The Wily Wilds feature is triggered when cool Mr Foxter, who is the game’s wild, fills an entire reel. Each wild carries a multiplier of up to 7x and up to three can show up in a single spin. The wilds also replace other paying symbols. Like many other slot games, the Foxy Spins free spins feature is triggered when you land three scatter symbols. The scatter symbol here is a gold bar and three of it reward you with a spin of the Bonus Wheel. The number of free spins you get will be determined by the pointer, with the range being 5 to 20 free spins. A starting multiplier between 2x and 10x can also be gotten here.

Number of Paylines: 64 and 117,649 per spinRTP: 95.71%
Min Bet: 0.10Max Bet: 10.00
Max Payout: 10,474.5xSoftware Provider: Red Tiger Gaming

Asgard Warriors

Asgard Warriors is another addition to Viking-themed online casino slot games from casino game developer, 1×2 Gaming. This slot game takes you on a quest for treasures and glory with fearsome-looking warriors from the north. 1×2 Gaming is known for releasing slot games with adventurous themes like this one and have been well-received over the years. Asgard Warriors was released on Wednesday, 19th May, 2021.

Asgard Warriors features 5 reels, 3 rows, and 243 ways to win. With an RTP of 94.56%, the slot doesn’t perform as well as similarly themed games. However, its variance is set up in such a way that it offers players the chance to win big with the maximum payout being 4,000x the worth of your stake per spin. To form a winning combo here, you’re required to land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the first one.

Asgard Warrior cta

There are only two bonus features on Asgard Warriors – Warriors Spins and Free Spins. To trigger, Warrior Spins, you have to land all three positions on the leftmost reel with the same character symbol. When this happens, low-paying symbols will be removed from the reels and high value symbols or wilds will land on the other four reels for a higher payout. This bonus feature is triggered more frequently than the other.

Free Spins in Asgard Warriors are triggered when 3 to 5 skull scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels in a spin. Depending on the number of scatters that trigger the feature, the number of free spins awarded ranges from 8 to 16. More skull scatter symbols appearing on the reels during Free Spins will earn you more free spins, accompanied by a win multiplier.

The graphics on this team are simple but excellently done. The wild and adventurous lifestyle of Vikings is emphasized here with the reels set on a landscape view of mountains, cloudy skies, and a river. Symbols on the game include three fierce-looking Viking warriors, their helmets, hammers, and so on.

Scroll of Dead

As a slot game enthusiast, the first thing that would most likely come to your mind when you hear a title like ‘Scroll of Dead’ is an ancient Egyptian-themed slot, much like the popular ‘Book of’ slot series. If that’s you, you’re absolutely right on this one. Scroll of Dead is Play ‘n GO’s latest innovative addition to this type of slot game. Here, they introduce a new Egyptian god named Shai, the god of destiny/faith, and an extra 6th reel that you won’t find in the ‘Book of’ slots.

scroll of dead cta

Scroll of Dead was designed with 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 adjustable paylines. Its RTP is 96.28%, with medium to high variance and a top win of 7,500 the worth of your stake. Landing a winning combo here requires that three or more matching symbols appear on the reels across a payline, beginning with the leftmost one.

Bonus features on Scroll of Dead include expanding symbols, wilds and scatters, Free Spins and the Gamble Feature. The Free Spins feature here differs from what is found in ‘Book of’ slots because when it is triggered, a sixth reel is activated and the expanding symbols feature kicks in. There are up to 8 free spins to be won here.

Number of Paylines: 10RTP: 96.28%

Lava Gold

In Lava Gold, Betsoft takes you all the way back to the Jurassic era where mighty dinosaurs walked the earth and a large volcanic eruption could have wiped out a large part of their population. With how much Betsoft has put into giving players of this slot game a great time on the reels, it is inevitable that it would end up on our list of the top 5 best new slots of week 19 of 2021. We’re talking about everything from high quality graphics to exciting bonus features and juicy payouts.

lava gold cta

Lava Gold features a 5×5 reel layout and a cluster pays engine. This means that a winning combination is made up of clusters of identical symbols that connect either horizontally or vertically. Each cluster ranges from 5 to 25 matching symbols and payouts depend on the number of symbols that form the win. Its RTP is 96.02% and there is a small jackpot prize of 161.84x the worth of your bet.

Cluster Wins and Free Spins are the bonus features in Lava Gold. In Cluster Wins, winning clusters are replaced with existing symbols in the grid, which randomly replicate to fill the spaces. New clusters can be formed here for more wins until there are no more winning clusters formed. Free Spins are triggered when you fill the Lava Meter on the right hand side of the reels. To fill it, you have to form clusters of symbols on the Lava Meter, from the lowest-paying to highest-paying ones. When the meter is full, you’ll get 10 free spins.

Cash Elevator

Cash Elevator is an online video slot game with a theme that is quite hard to decipher but is closely related to apocalyptic-themed slots. Your job here is to bring two zombie lovers, separated by the slot’s reels, back into each other’s arms. The higher you go up the elevator, the more the lower value symbols that will be removed.

Cash Elevator cta

Cash Elevator features 5 reels, 3 rows, and 20 paylines. To get a win, you have to land three to five matching symbols or wilds from left to right on an active payline. Its RTP is an impressive 96.64% and it is a high variance slot. Wins may not be frequent here but when they do land, they’re usually big. The largest win on a single spin here is 20,000x the worth of your slot.

The bonus features here are the Cash Elevator feature that takes you on a journey up or down the elevator with corresponding rewards. There is also the Dead Lovers Free Spins feature for free spins between 12 and 24.

Online Betting in Kentucky – Will it Be the Next State to Legalise?

The state of Kentucky is home to the famous Kentucky Derby, one of the biggest horse racing events in the world. Fans of the Derby have a great time watching the horses tear through the race track and placing bets on which horse will win.

However, what many people do not know is that that’s about as far as legal gambling goes in the state. Although many US states have relaxed their gambling laws, Kentucky remains one of the few that completely prohibits betting with real money within the state’s borders.

Legal Forms of Betting in Kentucky

Gambling in the United States is generally legal but the specifics on acceptable gambling forms are defined by each state. This is why legal gambling options vary from one state to the other. Hence, if you’re a gambling enthusiast living in Kentucky, you need to know what is allowed there before engaging in any form of betting.

The Bluegrass State prohibits all forms of real money gambling, both online and offline. As a result, you won’t find any land-based casinos or sportsbooks in the state. There is also no room for online betting in Kentucky because online casino or sportsbook operators haven’t been granted legal permission to operate. Thankfully, residents of the state can still get a form of gambling experience with some legally approved activities.

One of them is parimutuel betting for horse and greyhound racing. This is one form of betting that all Kentucky residents can engage in without any fear of breaking the law as the sport has become part and parcel of the state. For instance, The Kentucky Derby has been held every year for the past century until last year when the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the streak. Betting can be done in-person at licensed racetracks or online at licensed racing betting sites.

Kentucky also has a state lottery for its residents who are 18 years or older to participate in online or at licensed retail businesses. The closest thing to legal online sports betting in the state is online fantasy sports and for online casino lovers, some games can be played at social casinos where no real money is involved.

Kentucky’s Online Betting Future

Kentucky’s lawmakers have begun to make moves to regulate some forms of online gambling in the state. In 2020, a bipartisan bill for the legalization of sports betting and online poker was approved at the committee level but didn’t advance further. This is certainly a big deal for a state with one of the strictest restrictions on gambling in the US.

If you’re a gambling fan living in Kentucky, you can keep your fingers crossed for some good news in the coming years. In the meantime, take advantage of the legal gambling options available for you in the state for a safe and exciting experience. Good luck!

Michigan Online Casino v Online Sports Betting – Which Is Performing Best?

February 22, 2024 William Mcmaster

Michigan now has a clean slate when it comes to online gaming and sports betting, thanks to the state’s recent introduction of internet gaming. Michigan hopes to measure up against the competition, even though a few other states have been in the business for a long time. Michigan is tasked to live up to the players’ expectations and to bring Michigan’s online gambling market to a level that equates to that in other US states.

Thanks to a decline of the sports calendar in April, Michigan was among the first US states to see the first month-over-month drop-in sports betting revenue since introducing online sports betting earlier this year. Michigan is now a haven for online casinos.

The region’s online casinos and poker rooms did well in April, taking in $94.9 million, a slight decrease from March’s $95.1 million. For March, revenue per day rose to $3.16 million per day, up from $3.07 million a day in February (Michigan Gaming Control Board, 2021).

Michigan Sports Betting Lags Behind Casino

Michigan sportsbooks admitted $249.9 million in online handle in April, down 30.5 percent from $359.5 million in March, owing to a heavy reliance on regular-season baseball and NBA games to produce a play.

Michigan’s online and offline sportsbooks raised $274.2 million in bets, 91.1 percent of which were placed online when combined with the state’s $24.2 million retail handles, which were released last week. The total handle was down 28.5 percent from March’s $383.7 million in bets (Mitech News, 2021).

Michigan will remain in fifth place in the United States, behind New Jersey, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, based on the overall handle. However, from the start of online sports betting on January 21 to April 30, Michigan was the first state to cross $1 billion in online wagers, with $1.03 billion (Jordyn Grzelewski , 2021).

Michigan’s sales in April should keep it close to Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the country’s two largest iGaming markets, but none of those states has yet posted April results. The most significant distinction is the maturity level of the states.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board established regulations that enable players to open online gaming accounts without visiting a land-based casino. This ease of access to Michigan’s iGaming services is critical in the state’s huge industry. This is why Michigan is ahead of states such as Illinois, which require a visit to a casino in person.
